Ruth Walker, age 67, of Toccoa, Georgia went to be with the Lord on Monday, November 4, 2024.
Ruth was born on December 23, 1956 in Zeeland, Michigan to the late Benjamin and Winnie Vander Zwaag. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Waldo Vander Zwaag and brother-in-law Neal Olree.
Ruth was known for her soft-spoken, kind nature and her strong love for her family. She was a homemaker who proudly raised and lovingly homeschooled her four children. Ruth was skilled and creative and used that continually to bless others from crocheting animals for children, sewing clothes and making nearly every plant she touched grow. Her loving nature was not only adored by her grandchildren, but by the many lives she touched through Child Evangelism Fellowship. Ruth had a deep faith and love for her Lord and often told her loved ones to “stay close to Jesus” no matter what she endured. She was member of Christ Presbyterian Church in Clarkesville. Ruth spent many happy hours traveling with her beloved husband, exploring nature or paying tribute to her Dutch heritage. Above all, Ruth cherished her family, especially her grandchildren, who lovingly called her “Grandma.” She was devoted to creating lasting memories and shared moments, bringing love and joy into their lives. She was an excellent listener and had a tender way of making others feel loved and appreciated, which left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege to know her.
Survivors include her loving husband of 40 years, Ronald Walker, of Toccoa; son and daughter-in-law, Nathan and Morgan Walker, of Toccoa; daughter and son-in-law, Esther and Bryan Hulsey, of Toccoa; daughter, Rachel Walker, of Marietta; son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Bethany Walker, of Marietta; brothers and sister-in-laws, Charles and Nancy Vander Zwaag, of St. Joe, MI; James and Peggy Vander Zwaag, of Mason, OH; sisters, Bonnie Vander Zwaag, of Byron; Delores Olree, of Brandon, FL; Donna Vander Zwaag, of Byron; grandchildren, Lily, Joel, Kelsey, Isaiah, Owen, Vincent, Adeline, Ava, and Lydia
