Glenn Carthel Reed, Sr.

Glenn Carthel Reed, Sr., 88, of Gainesville, Georgia, passed peacefully on November 2, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on October 10, 1936, in Oakwood, Georgia, Mr. Reed was preceded in death by his beloved son, Glenn Carthel Reed, Jr., of Forsyth; his parents, Glenn James Reed and Lillie Glass Reed of Oakwood; and his brother, Raymond Donald Reed of Oakwood.

Remaining to cherish his memory are his devoted wife of over 65 years, Carolyn Martin Reed; his children: Billy Glenn Reed (Patsy), Carol Reed Wiley (Gerry), and Bobby Reed (Kim); as well as his grandchildren: Heather Wiley Dempster, Matthew Reed, Joshua Wiley, Tim Reed, Chase Reed, Cameron Reed, and Conner Reed. He was also a proud great-grandfather to six and leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews.

Mr. Reed attended Oakwood High School, where he was a basketball player, before enlisting in the U.S. Army. He served honorably as a Sergeant from March 1954 to September 1960 and was active during the Korean War. Following his military service, Mr. Reed dedicated over 30 years to Sears Roebuck and Co., where he managed the Parts Department.

When his children were young, Mr. Reed cherished fishing with his sons.  He was an ardent fan of both the Atlanta Braves and Georgia Bulldogs. A keen Pinochle player, he loved card games with friends and family. Mr. Reed was also a long-time member of Air Line Baptist Church and close friend to former pastor, Reverend Charles Pirkle.

Visitation will take place on November 5, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Memorial Park Riverside Funeral Home followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel officiated by his grandsons, Reverend Josh Wiley and Reverend Chase Reed. He will be laid to rest with military honors rendered by the United States Army Honor Guard at Memorial Park Cemetery.
