Mr. Joel Roger Yonce, age 87, of Gillsville, Georgia, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 31, 2024.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 pm and 5 to 7 pm Sunday, November 3, 2024 at Memorial Park Riverside Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, November 4, 2024 at Lebanon Methodist Church in Gillsville with interment to follow in the church cemetery. Reverend Dr. Tom Smiley will preside
He was born in Jackson County, Georgia on April 6, 1937, to the late Roy Henry Yonce, Sr. and Frances Williams Yonce. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Margaret Griffin Yonce; brothers and a sister, John Hayes Yonce, Jack Ray Yonce, Roy Henry Yonce, Jr., James Douglas Yonce and Jo Ann Yonce; niece, Miriam Yonce Kall.
Roger worked for over 40 years at Gainesville Manufacturing and Chicopee Manufacturing. He was a devoted Christian and a member of Lebanon Methodist Church., He was a very generous person giving his time and money to anyone in need. He taught himself to play golf and was a scratch golfer, winning numerous city and county tournaments. He also painted in his later years and was featured in the Mountain Laurel Magazine and the Gainesville Times. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend and will be missed by all who knew him.
Roger is survived by his daughters and son-in-laws, Caroline and Jack Keener of Gainesville and Arrahwannah and Ronnie Turpin of Mount Airy; granddaughters; Kate Turpin (Charley) Cunningham, and Kassidy Turpin (Landon) Earnest; grandson, Griffin Keener; sister-in-law, Janice Yonce; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Enocka Franky, Dawn White, Terry Rigby Jackson Adams, the staff of Lakes of Gainesville and Golden Rule Hospice for their excellent care.
