Doris Ann Butler Burzynski, age 81, of Dahlonega, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 30, 2024. Born on November 11, 1942, in Dahlonega, Doris was the beloved daughter of the late Fred Butler and Verbie Anderson Butler.
Doris is survived by her devoted husband of 34 years, Hank Burzynski; sons, Timothy (Leslie Ann) Head of Dacula and Matthew (Kimberly) Head of Dahlonega; grandchildren, Allyson, Zachary, and Maxwell; cousin Geneva Sanders; and cherished caregivers Judy Hester, Blair Grote, and Natalie NeSmith. She will also be deeply missed by her loyal companion, her dog Cooper.
A proud educator, Doris retired from Lumpkin County schools in 1997 after dedicating over 30 years to teaching second grade, where she touched countless young lives. Following retirement, she and Hank loved to travel to Naples, Florida, where she honed her shuffleboard skills and won a championship title. In Naples, Doris and Hank also spent their days fishing, enjoying Bingo nights, and making memories together.
Doris had a deep love for bluegrass music and delighted in playing the Autoharp with friends on Monday nights in Auraria. Above all, she cherished her role as “Grandma Doris,” a title she wore with pride and love for her grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home, with Reverend Kris Butler and Reverend Lyman Caldwell officiating. Interment will follow in Yahoola Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:00 AM until the service hour.
Doris will be remembered for her generous spirit, devotion to family, and unwavering love for her community.
