Dennis “Wayne” Bullard, aged 73 years, was called home to Jesus on October 18th, 2024. His many friends may remember him from church (Midway Presbyterian and Mount Carmel Christian), where he joyously sang in the choir with his beautiful tenor voice. Wayne was a graduate of Columbia High School (Class of 1969) in Decatur, Georgia, where he participated in numerous school activities including the debate team and varsity football and wrestling. He attended Presbyterian College (1969-70); and he graduated from DeKalb Technical School, at which he became an instructor. During his lifetime, he also worked as a manager for Winn-Dixie, at Bullard Florist, Inc., (“the family business”), at Bullard Air (his HVAC company), and at DeKalb College/Georgia Perimeter College (where he ran the HVAC systems department amongst various other roles).
Wayne loved talking to people and making new friends; and he enjoyed reading books and watching church services, sports, and old Westerns on TV. He was a wonderful, loving father and was actively involved in the activities of his three children including coaching all three in various sports. He was so very proud of each of his five grandchildren. He was extremely generous and always put his family before his own needs. Most importantly, Wayne was a devout Christian and was the spiritual leader of his family.
He was predeceased by his parents, Ellene Maddox Bullard and Andrew “Boyd” Bullard, and his younger brother Andrew (“Andy”) Alan Bullard. His surviving family members include his loving wife of 52 years, Cheryl Mercier Bullard; their daughter Keri (Waldo) Marsh of Lawrenceville, GA, daughter Laura (Troy) Keyes of Buford, GA, son Matthew (Stephanie) Bullard of Jefferson, GA, and grandchildren Grace, Amanda, Madelyn, Samantha, and Elijah. Also surviving are Wayne’s sisters, Lanette (Marlon) Wolcott and Nancy (Patrick) Karol, sister-in-law Denise Bullard, brother-in-law Michael (Iris) Mercier, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.
A memorial service for Wayne is planned for Saturday, October 26, 2024, at Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel & Gardens in Buford, Georgia. Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm, and the service will begin at 2:00 pm. Minister Art Stansberry will officiate at the service.
