Linda Vernette Smith Peek Elrod

Linda Vernette Smith Peek Elrod, 87, of Evansville, passed away on Monday, October 21, 2024 at Walnut Creek Alzheimer’s Care Center.

Linda was born on December 10, 1936 in Forsyth County, Georgia to the late Goldie B. and Donald (Black) Smith. She graduated from Airline High School in East Hall County, Georgia in 1954, where she cheered and finished 2nd in her class. Linda worked as a seamstress in a local hosiery mill and later at Western Electric/AT&T, where she was a tester in the Quality Department. She was a 21 year member of the Communication Workers of America.

Linda had three boys and was very involved in their sporting and school activities. She enjoyed playing softball, deer hunting, rock hunting, fishing, camping, drawing, painting, sewing, quilting, yard sales, gardening and traveling to Florida and the mountains with family and friends.

Surviving Linda are sons, Jason (Heather) Elrod, Robert (Becky) Peek and Ricky Peek; stepchildren, David Elrod, Danny (Lisa) Elrod and Denise Corcoran; twelve grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by her husband, R.C. Elrod in 2007 and by a sister, Shirley Dale.

The family will receive friends at Memorial Park Funeral Home Friday, October 25, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 26, 2024 in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home. Rev. J.D. Sosebee will officiate. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
