Evans Funeral Home of Jefferson announces the death of Mr. George Haggard, age 88, of Hoschton, Georgia, a retired businessman, known for his sense of humor and community service, passed away on Monday, October 21, 2024.
Mr. Haggard was preceded in death by his loving wife of fifty-three years, LaNell Matthews Haggard. Survivors include a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and many wonderful friends.
George, along wife his wife, owned and operated Haggard Enterprises in Buford, GA, before retiring. George was a man of many words who never met a stranger. He loved helping other people and loved being around other people. Others loved being around him, also, because they were always guaranteed a fun, happy time when in his presence.
George gave many years of faithful, loyal and dedicated service to the people of Sugar Hill, GA. The people rewarded him by electing him Councilman and Mayor. He also served as Jury Commissioner for Gwinnett County for six years and served in the armed forces. He was a member of the Zion Hill Baptist Church in Buford, GA, and served many years as usher and deacon at First Baptist Church of Buford, GA.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at 2:00 PM in the Zion Hill Baptist Church, 3390 S. Puckett Road, Buford, Georgia 30519.
Opening remarks and prayer will be given by Pastor Danny Newbern. The eulogy will be given by Mr. Allen Queen and Mr. Pat Wilson. A private graveside service will follow at the Broadlawn Memorial Gardens with Pastor Danny Newbern presiding. Gentlemen honored as pallbearers are Bob Parris, Alex Shiver, Jeremy Sutton, Joshua Sutton, Mitch Blinn and Eddie Wright.
The family will receive visitors on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at the Zion Hill Baptist Church from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM, prior to the service, and again following the service.
