Joanne “Jo” Baker DeWaele, 77, of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away peacefully October 18,2024 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Braselton Georgia surrounded by loved ones. Born in Cherokee County, Georgia, Joanne lived a life full of service, love, and faith. She worked for Flavor-Rich in Atlanta, Georgia, and was a former member of New Harmony Baptist Church in Cumming, Georgia, later becoming a devoted member of Free Chapel Church in Gainesville, Georgia. During her time with Free Chapel she volunteered for His Harvest House Food Ministry for 14 years and was a board member for New Beginnings women’s rehabilitation ministry.
Joanne is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Ethel Mae Watkins Baker and William Louie Baker, her dear sister Brenda Sue Baker Smith, and her cherished niece, Leigha Pettit. She is survived by her loving husband, Jack DeWaele, her sister Wanda Faye Baker Pettit, and several nieces and nephews.
A faithful servant of God, Joanne touched countless lives through her ministry and passion for sharing the Gospel. She was known for her kindness, her deep love for people, and her unwavering devotion to her family, her church, and her Savior, Jesus Christ. Anyone who had the privilege of meeting Joanne would agree that she radiated warmth and a genuine love for those around her.
Her life will be celebrated, and she will be remembered for the lives she impacted, her unwavering faith, and the love she shared so generously.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 26, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Little and Davenport Funeral Home in Gainesville, Georgia. The family will receive friends after the service.
