Cora Lee Norton Yearwood

Mrs. Cora Lee Norton Yearwood, age 95 of Yearwood Street, Toccoa passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at her residence, surrounded by her family.

A daughter of the late Rev. Harrison Norton and Marie Lewallen Norton, she was born April 28, 1929 in Stephens County, Georgia. She moved to Chicago where she operated a daycare for 35 years.  Upon retirement she and her husband, Rev. Almon Yearwood moved back to Toccoa.  She founded and operated 1st Independent School Mission for 50 years.  She had a heart for children, family and faith and helping people help themselves was her mission plan.  She was known for her contagious smile.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Almon Yearwood; daughters, Letha Yearwood and Zandra Traudt and son, Thomas Michael Yearwood.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sabrina and Edger Warren of Toccoa; sons and daughters-in-law, Curtis and Inga Yearwood of Illinois, Greg and Kelly Yearwood of Tennessee, Jeff Yearwood of Illinois, Robert Yearwood and Oscar and Lori Yearwood both of Toccoa; twenty grandchildren and twenty-five great-grandchildren; sisters, Louise McCurry, Debra Sims and Carol Noah Scott.

Funeral services will be Saturday, October 19, 2024, 3 o’clock p.m. in the Hillcrest Chapel of the Acree-Davis Funeral Home with family members officiating.  Family members will serve as pallbearers, Curt Yearwood, Greg Yearwood, Jeffery Yearwood, Oscar Yearwood, Peter Traudt and Caleb Shirley.

The family will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Friday, 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m.  Online condolences may be left for the family at www.acree-davisfh.com.

Private family interment will follow in the Community Church Cemetery.
