Betty "Jane" Nichols

Obituary Date: Saturday, October 12, 2024

Betty “Jane” Nichols, 66, left this world on October 12, 2024. Jane was born to William “Big Bill” and Aileen Nichols on August 23, 1958.

Jane graduated from North Georgia College in just three years with two degrees Math and Physical Education. While she pursued a career in teaching, this was not to be her true calling.

After a chance encounter with a former high school friend, Frankie Hooper, who happened to work for the Gainesville Police Department, she was persuaded to give law enforcement a try.

And this began a lifetime calling of serving her community with honor and pride. Jane was a born leader and worked in every department at the police department. From night shift patrol to Deputy Chief she gave 100% to all.

Jane was the oldest of five and her love for her family was immeasurable. Being the oldest, she learned early on how to take charge and supervise, a role she was born to fill. She was the big sister that was always there for her family to give encouragement and support.

Jane leaves behind the love of her life, her wife of 16 years, Kim along with her treasured son Zach. Her family was everything to her and she, Kim and Zach enjoyed life together.

She also leaves behind her siblings that she loved beyond measure and she was loved in return by them: Lisa (Randy) Cantrell, Linda Nichols and Sandy (Larry) Westmoreland.

She also leaves behind her beloved nephews and nieces: Dennis (Beka) Seymour, Phillip (Lydia) Cantrell, Callie Cantrell, Katie Jane (Jackson) Alexander and William Key.

She also had her great nephews and nieces that she adored: Trent and Bella Seymour, Benjamin and Barrett Cantrell and Colton Alexander.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents Big Bill and Aileen Nichols and her baby brother Billy Nichols.

To say that Jane will be missed is such an understatement. She leaves behind a void that will never be filled.

The world is a better place because it was graced by Jane for 66 years.

Thank you for protecting and serving us all.

A memorial service will be held at 5:00 p.m. Sunday, October 20, 2024 in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home.
