Ann Westbrook, 83, of Atlanta, died on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2024, at the Oaks at Braselton.
Ann was born on March 10, 1941, in Cuthbert, Ga., to the late Bill and Claire Westbrook of Lumpkin, Ga.
She graduated from Stewart County High School and the University of Georgia, earning a degree in education. She taught in public schools before starting her own kindergarten in Americus, Ga., where she raised her two sons, Christopher and Stephen.
At age 40, Ann went back to school at Georgia Southwestern College and earned a nursing degree. For the remainder of her career she worked as a registered nurse for OB/GYN offices in Americus and Atlanta.
In 1988, Ann left Americus to live with her sister Carol in Atlanta. They lived together for the rest of her life.
Ann was a gregarious person, known to strike up friendly conversations with whomever she encountered. She endeared herself to countless people with her outgoing personality.
She was an avid reader, and enjoyed traveling to destinations in Maine and Montana. In retirement, she found much joy in spending time with her great-niece, Charlotte, and her grandson, Charlie.
She was a Methodist and relied on her faith to the end of her life. She passed peacefully at the Oaks at Braselton with her sister by her side.
She leaves behind to her mourn her passing her two sons, Christopher Gurr and Stephen Gurr, her son-in-law, Vish Vaidya, her former daughter-in-law, Jeanette Gurr, her sister, Carol Williams, her brother, Joel Westbrook, her nieces, Kate Westbrook Hanger and Claire Castleberry, her nephew, Willie Westbrook, her grandson, Charlie Gurr and great-niece Charlotte Westbrook, as well as numerous longtime friends.
Memorial services are pending arrangements and will be announced at a later date.
