Betty Hawkins Carpenter of Gainesville, GA, passed away on October 8, 2024. She was the wife of John Mark Carpenter who preceded her in death in 2022.
She was the daughter of Wyatt Gaines Hawkins and Lorena Tyner Hawkins. She had the privilege of being reared in a Christian home. Because of that and the example of her grandmother Tyner she felt called to become a pastor/minister’s wife. For some 60 years, including 26 years in Liberia W. Africa she delighted in caring for her precious family and being just that.
Betty loved to teach and serve others. She was active in the citizenship classes held at First Baptist Church in Gainesville, GA. It was a special love of hers.
Surviving are daughter Nancy and husband Tommy Hulsey; daughter Kimberly and husband Steve Abrams; daughter Barbara and husband Jeff Clement; son Chris and wife Janice. Her older son, Mark, passed away in 2022. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, October 13, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Gainesville, GA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and at the church on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until the hour of service.
