Gerald T. Cieply, 74, of Gainesville, Georgia passed away peacefully on October 1, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Janis; daughter, Andrea (Nick) of Alpharetta; grandchildren, Calvin and Braden; brother, Mickey (Allie); niece, Erika (B.J.) and children Mariah and Hope; niece, Erin and children Luke and Leah; and nephew, Michael (Danielle) and children Kimber and Michael.
Gerry was born in Syracuse, New York on February 18th, 1950. He graduated from West Hill High School in 1967. After attending Kent State, he graduated from SUNY Oswego with a BS in Computer Science. His career involved both computer support and training.
Gerry's love of music began at a young age. While in high school, he played trumpet in the West Hill High School Concert Band and the Jazz Band. He was also a fine singer and mastered every style of music which he chose to enjoy. In the 80s and 90s, he performed with various groups in Syracuse and Central New York, including Easy Street and the Syracuse Oratorio Society. After relocating to Gainesville, he continued sharing his gift of music, actively participating in Karaoke Nights, the Cresswind Chorus, Chorale, Barbershop Quartet, and the prestigious Lanier Chamber Singers.
Beyond singing, Gerry was known for his excellent cooking, his mastery of trivia, and his love of tennis and pickleball.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 4, 2024 in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Thursday, October 3, 2024 from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m.
