Larry H. Barnes

Mr. Larry H. Barnes, age 76 of Jefferson, passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2024 at his home surrounded by family. 

Family will receive guest for visitation on Thursday, October 3, 2024 from 4pm to 6pm in the Braselton Room and service at 6pm in the Butterfly Garden. 

Mr. Barnes was born on Tuesday, November 18, 1947 to the late Mr. Arthur Barnes & Mrs. Roberta Engard in Hampton, VA. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1966 while The United States was engaged in the Vietnam War. He deployed in country during time of battle. He completed his Active Duty service in February of 1969 under the rank of SGT (E-5) and was a Purple Heart recipient. He was a member of the Harley Davidson Association, Georgia Sheriffs Association, The American Legion and The National Rifle Association. 

He leaves behind his two daughters, Megan Zartman and husband Joshua, Carson Schaefer and husband Karl. His four grandchildren; Genevieve and Beckett Zartman, Raegan and Brigham Schaefer. He is also survived by his two sisters, Judy Rickard and Sandi Roberson as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Arthur Barnes and mother, Roberta Engard. 

In lieu of flowers the family asks that you please make donations to the Georgia Sheriff’s Youth Homes Donate – Georgia Sheriffs' Youth Homes (georgiasheriffsyouth.org) in memory of Mr. Larry H. Barnes.
