Cora Lee Griffin Russell

Mrs. Cora Lee Griffin Russell, 98, made her transition to her Heavenly home on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, Georgia.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Allen Russell; one son, Allan Russell, Jr.; and one daughter, Brenda Russell. Affectionally called, Ms. Cora Lee, was born to the late James and Ola Dover Griffin of Banks County, Georgia.

Ms. Cora Lee was educated in the local Banks County and Habersham County public school system. She retired after 15 years from the Georgia DHR County Health Department. 

Ms. Cora Lee was a faithful member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where she regularly attended until her health declined. She held different offices in the church and was the Mother of the Church. Ms. Cora Lee’s interests were gardening, baking, hearing daily inspirational Bible Verses, watching the church's sermons virtually, reading the local newspaper, and word find puzzles. She loved her family, church and community.

Ms. Cora Lee leaves in loving memory her two daughters, Khalilah (Dawud) and Cathlyn (Leon). She was the last of eleven siblings. She has seven grandchildren, Sulaiman, Pekota, Mukkaramah, Ethridge, Hakim, Mikal, and Kenya; eleven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Clarkesville, GA. Visitation will be held an hour prior to service. Professional Services Entrusted to Wimberly Funeral Home.
