William Mitchell “Mike” Mize, Jr., age 63, of Alto, passed away on Saturday, September 28, 2024.
Born on January 24, 1961, in Athens, he was a son of William Mitchell “Mickey” Mize, Sr. and Martha W. Mize of Commerce. Mike was a 1979 graduate of Commerce High School, who worked for Mt. Vernon Mills for a number of years. He is remembered for his love of family, especially his grandchildren, his big heart, and his ability to fix anything. Mike was known as the kind of person who would give the shirt off his back. In his spare time, he enjoyed racing and football. He himself played high school football as a middle schooler, and continued to play throughout his time at Commerce High School, where he was also a champion in tennis, as well as, track and field. He was of the Christian faith.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Thad & Frankie Mize and Bill & Lilly Mae Wehunt; and special friends, Butch and Katie Anderson.
Survivors include his loving companion of 17 years, Teresa Irvin of Alto; son, Adam Mize of Kings Mountain, North Carolina; daughter and son-in-law, Abby Ginn (Adam) of Nicholson; grandchildren, Gianna Mize, Lillian, Charlotte, and Ruby Ginn; and brother, Greg Mize of Jefferson.
Memorial services are 2 pm on Friday, October 4, 2024, in the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart with Rev. Terry Rice officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1 pm until the service hour on Friday, October 4, 2024, at the funeral home.
