William Douglas “Doug” Woodruff

Obituary Date: Saturday, September 28, 2024

William Douglas “Doug” Woodruff passed away quietly during the early morning hours of September 28, 2024.  A lifelong resident of Gainesville, Georgia; Doug will be remembered for his dedication to his family and his beloved UGA Bulldogs.  He loved traveling and a good road trip.  He retired from the Hall County Fire Department as well as working through various other pursuits during his life. At one point in his life he was driving a hearse for Ward’s Funeral Home of Gainesville.  It was during this time that he met Ida Mae “Dottie” Cleveland.  Doug and Dottie would go on to be married for 35 beautiful years until her passing in February of 2013. Doug spent the rest of his life loving her and longing for the day that he would see her again. What a beautiful day September 28th must have been!

Doug was born on March 25, 1954 to the late Bill and Bertha Woodruff. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Donald Woodruff. It brings Doug’s family great peace and joy knowing that he is now reunited with these members of his family, and resting peacefully in the arms of our Savior, Jesus Christ. It is surreal how death is a beautiful gift when we know Jesus.

“We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord.”

2 Corinthians 5:8

Doug is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Christy Woodruff, step-son and wife, Randy and Suzanne Jarrard and step-son, Ricky Jarrard. He is also survived by his grand-children, Hallie Woodruff, Mallory Woodruff, Sydney Woodruff, Asher Woodruff, Taylor Jarrard, Macey Jarrard, and Mason Jarrard. Still living are Doug's sister Janet Woodruff, brother and sister-in-law, Melvin and Joan Woodruff, and sister-in-law Carolyn Woodruff, along with many other family members and friends.

Doug’s living family and friends are heart-broken at the loss of their beloved “Papa Doug,” dad, brother, and friend, but know that although his earthly body is gone, his heavenly body and mind are now restored and living eternally with our Heavenly Father. If you are reading this and do not know the hope that is found in having a relationship with Jesus Christ, please take this opportunity to accept the free gift of life and love that Jesus is offering. You will never regret knowing God and living a purpose-filled life and one day experiencing a peaceful and beautiful death.

“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”

Ephesians 2:8-9
