William Edwin “Ed” Looper, 92, of Dawsonville passed away Tuesday, September 17, 2024 following a period of declining health.
Born August 17, 1932 to the late Jack and Lula Bell Looper, he was a lifelong resident of Dawson County. Along with his wife, they formerly owned and operated Looper’s Food Mart after which he operated the Dawson County Cannery for several years. Ed was a 60 year member of Etowah Lodge # 222 F&AM and was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was an avid golfer and had served as a member of the board of Dawson County DFACS, and was a former member of the Dawsonville City Council. A member of Dawsonville Baptist Church, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Louise Looper; brother, James Hoyt Looper, and a grandson, Neal Burt.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to caregivers Philip Abercrombie and Alex Terry at North Georgia Assisted Living and to Andrea Feirer with Caritas Hospice Care.
Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Ruth Moore Looper, Dawsonville; children, Robin and Glenn Burt, Jeff Looper, Allison Grace, all of Dawsonville; granddaughter, Kaylen Grace (Alex Terry); great grandson, Marlowe Grace; sister, Betty Ann Bagley, Cumming; and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held Friday, September 20, 2024 at 2 o’clock at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Cory Gilleland, Dr. Eddie Martin, Rev. Wilson Pruitt and Rev. Russell Burt will officiate. Interment will follow in the Dawsonville City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 4 until 8 at the funeral home.
