It is with great sorrow and heavy heart that we announce the death of our dear sister,
Wanda Gail Macbeth. Wanda passed away, with her family by her side, at the North
East Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, on Sept. 5, 2024. She was 63 years old.
Wanda was the daughter of Robert Blair Macbeth and Mary Catherine Macbeth. She is
survived by her brothers Brian, Glenn (Gerry), and Blair (Cathy), her nephews John and
Reese, nieces Erin (Spencer) and Alison (Dan), grandnieces Ayla, Hadley, Parker, Luna,
and Harper June, and her grandnephews Aiden and Landon.
Wanda was a resident of Dahlonega/Lumpkin County for 46 years. She was a graduate of
Lumpkin County High School. Her hobbies and other interests included numerous pets (she
loved her cats), gardening, traveling, camping trips with family, and visiting relatives all
over the country.
Wanda had many pen pals from various parts of the world: Japan,
Africa, and Asia for example. Wanda loved her flowers, and she was especially fond of
daffodils. She planted hundreds of bulbs in the forest around her home and gathered
them to make beautiful flower arrangements. These golden yellow heralds of spring will
return each year serving as a beautiful reminder of our golden-haired sister.
Although having no children of her own, Wanda loved her nephew John who lived with
her and his grandmother for many years. She was very proud of the fact that "I helped
raise him". When John grew up and had children of his own, he would bring Aiden and
Ayla up to visit and Wanda would set up an elaborate playground for them outside. She
and Catherine loved babysitting the kids. It was one of her great pleasures in life. She enjoyed
visiting her brother Glenn and his family in Tennessee and Boston where Hadley,
Parker, and Landon live, and seeing Luna and Harper Junes' updated photos from
Amsterdam on her picture viewer.
Wanda was a strong-willed person with a unique personality and sense of humor that
carried her through the difficult times. She battled with numerous health issues
throughout her life; pneumonia, type 1 diabetes, scoliosis, and a diagnosis of heart
disease requiring surgery. Through it all she managed to keep a positive outlook,
hopeful that things would get better. Wanda loved her mother Catherine very much and
they had a special bond. She lived with her mother her entire life. When our mother
became ill last year, Wanda became her devoted caregiver and looked after her to the
very end. The loss of her mother of course was devastating to her, but Wanda
persevered asking everyone she would meet for hugs and prayers when her own health
began to fail. While in the Hospital for tests relating to her heart, Wanda asked one of the
housekeeping staff named Shay for a hug and a prayer. After saying she would pray for
her, Shay went out turned around came back into the room closed the door walked over
to Wanda took her by the hands leaned over and delivered the most beautiful prayer I had
ever heard. Wanda beamed a big smile and thanked her. Shay replied, "you made my day, no one has ever asked me to pray for them here before and I'll pray for you for the rest of my
life". A week later Wanda slipped into a diabetic coma. She fought valiantly to hold on to life
to her last breath.
All that really counts in life is love of family, nothing else matters, nothing else
compares. We love you Wanda, hugs and prayers, God Bless.
A Celebration of Life for Wanda will be held by her family in a private ceremony.
