Joseph Lee Massey

Evans Funeral Home of Jefferson announces the death of Mr. Joseph Lee Massey, age 87, of Jefferson, Georgia who entered the arms of his heavenly Father Monday September 9, 2024. Mr. Massey was born in Atlanta, Georgia the son of the late Herman and Virginia Massey. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Kelley, George and Richard Massey.

Joe graduated from Bass High School in Atlanta, GA and then served 20 years in the United States Army. His military career included serving in Korea and two tours of duty in Vietnam. After the service, Joe drove a school bus for Oglethorpe County School System, worked as a counselor for the Department of Veterans Services and had a video ministry at Colbert First Baptist Church, Colbert, Georgia. He loved watching old westerns, listening to music and could basically fix anything. Mr. Massey was a member of The Grove, Maysville, Georgia. 

Survivors include his wife of forty-six years, Terry Massey. His children, Lee (Pam) Massey, Jeannette (John) Parker and Yvonne Massey along with grandchildren and great grandchildren and his sister, Janie Massey. Other loving family members by marriage, Chuck Keane, Betty Massey, Nancy Massey, Elvin and Martha Burns, Doug and Lynn Jewell and several nieces and nephews. Joe was dearly loved by family pet Ryder.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 P.M. Saturday September 14, 2024 at Evans Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Jeff Appling officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park, Athens, GA. Full military honors will be given at the funeral home by the United States Army Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Saturday from 11:30 A.M. until time of service at 1:30 P.M. prior to the service at Evans Funeral Home.
