Mr. Robert Wiggins Goethe, 92, of Hoschton, Georgia, passed away on September 4, 2024 at his residence.
Mr.Goethe was employed with the Georgia Ports Authority where he worked in the Finance and Operations Divisions and ultimately retired in 1993 as the Assistant Executive Director. He then worked as an international transportation consultant through 2015.
He was the adopted son of Annie and Coy Goethe of Charleston, SC and the biological son of Virginia and Victor Tillotson of Jacksonville, Florida. He married Phyllis A Dotson of Asheville, North Carolina, in 1954. They enjoyed 57 years of marriage until her death in September 2011. In November 2012, he married Frances J. Jones of Richmond, Virginia until her death on February 12, 2020.
He is survived by his 3 children and 1 sister; His children are Christopher H. Goethe,(Terri) of Toccoa, GA., Cheryl G. Shilling (Tom) of Inman, SC and Karlton H. Goethe (Nancy) of Dallas, GA. His sister is Patricia T Fowler (Rick) of Gainesville, FL. He has 9 grandchildren, Lawton Goethe, William Goethe (Manny) Josh Hambrick (Taylor) David Hambrick, Leslie Lane (Kevin), Kellie Alexander (Brent), Taylor Moore (Ethan), Kristen Goethe, Ryan Goethe and 5 great-grandchildren: Riley and Lucas Lane, Sofia Goethe, Emerson Hambrick, Henry Moore.
Mr. Goethe was a member of North Metro Baptist Church, of Lawrenceville, as well as serving as a Deacon for 32 years Calvary Baptist Temple, in Savannah.
A celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 pm in the Braselton Chapel on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at Braselton Funeral Home. 5257 Highway 53, Braselton, Ga 30517, with Dr. Frank Cox officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00pm until the time of service.
A graveside service will be held at Bonaventure Cemetery, in Savannah, on Saturday, October 12, 2024.
