Jacqueline “Jackie” Tolley Meyer

Mrs. Jacqueline “Jackie” Tolley Meyer, age 80, of Gainesville, Georgia passed away on September 6, 2024.

Jackie was born July 20, 1944 in Pineville, West Virginia to the late Jack Tolley and Lena Morgan Tolley. She taught school at Oakwood Elementary for 30 years and 3 years part-time at Sardis Elementary School. Jackie was a born teacher. She was one of the lucky ones, she got to do what she loved doing. She was the kind of teacher you would want your child to have. There was an artistic side to her. She would prepare a script and props with the help of the children. Once completed the students would present the play to other classes. She made sure everyone had a part of the fun and games in second grade! A lot of people were placed in her life, one day I came home and there was a mom and three children. Jackie told me she went by the church and these babies had no home. We got the mother settled and kept the two older boys. They stayed with us for a couple of years until the oldest graduated 9th grade.

In our 57 years of marriage, I always make the big decisions, fortunately there were none.  Jackie’s desire was to be cremated, and her ashes placed in a columbarium. I overruled her. I gave her a funeral and I’m sure it will come back to haunt me! 

          In her later years we did a lot of traveling, which she really enjoyed. She was a member of ADK sorority and led a small group study at church. We were married for 57 years.

She leaves behind her husband Paul B. Meyer; sons, Paul Meyer, Jr. and Eric Meyer. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, David and Janet Tolley

A funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, September 14, 2024 at the Gainesville 1st United Methodist Church at 11:00 am. Her remains will lie in state at the church from 10:30 am to 11:00 am Saturday, prior to the service.
