Douglas Paul Stohlman, age 71, passed away suddenly on September 3, 2024. He was a beloved husband, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Doug was born and grew up in Garfield Hts, OH, where he met his wife Nancy (Cianciolo) Stohlman. They met in kindergarten, started dating in their junior year of high school, and attended Dyke College together. Doug was an accountant and owned a business with his brothers for several years. Doug had many diverse interests and hobbies which included fishing, coaching Little League, trains, wood working, set construction and performing in community theaters, he was even proficient in counted cross stitch. Doug became a cat lover after rescuing several special feline friends (Kitty-Kitty, Alice, Calli and Taffy II). Doug was an accomplished cook and baker, known for the variety of cookies and jams that he and Nancy made together and shared with others. One of his greatest loves and comforts was music. Everything that happened in his life or thoughts that he had brought the lyrics of a song to mind, and he loved to share those with Nancy
Doug’s love of music was only surpassed by his love for Nancy, his wife of nearly 50 years. Doug and Nancy moved to Georgia in 2009 where they eventually retired, built their dream home, met many new friends, and pursued their love of road trips. Their favorite places included Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina, the Great Smokey Mountains, and especially Boothbay Harbor, Maine, their happy place.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents Melvin Stohlman and Eileen (Wood) Stohlman, his brother William Stohlman and sister-in-law Cheryl Collova. Doug is survived by his loving wife, Nancy (Cianciolo) Stohlman, brother James (Sandy) Stohlman, sisters-in-law Annette Bisbee (Randy) and Susan Stohlman, brother-in-law Tony Collova, beloved nieces and nephews Scott Stohlman, Jennifer Collova, Steven Stohlman, Dina Johnson, Kimberlee Paul, Megan Carlson, Matthew Bisbee, and great nieces and nephew Mackenzie Stohlman, Maria Johnson, and Zander Paul.
A funeral service for friends in Georgia will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 12, 2024 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Flowery Branch, Georgia. The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 12, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. An additional funeral mass and burial will take place in NE Ohio the following week pending final arrangements.
