Pat DeLong Obituary -  Memorial Park Funeral Home, Gainesville, GA

Our beautiful, sweet Pat has gone home to meet her savior. She passed away on Monday following an extended illness

We are simply crushed. However, we rest in the knowledge that she is in the arms of the Lord she loved and served. Pat loved God, her husband, her children, her family and friends, and nearly everyone else who entered her orbit. And they loved her. She never met a stranger and  she was filled with love and kindness, which she richly dispensed to others.

There was never a kinder, more thoughtful person. She was often found sending cards and gifts and food and doing things, even small things, for others. Sometimes on special occasions. Sometimes, just because. She was always thinking of others first. She always volunteered at school, at church, or wherever she was needed. She quietly LIVED the Christian values that most of us talk about. On top of that, she was hilarious. She always found the humor in every situation.

Pat graduated from Johnson High School and then attended Gainesville Jr, College studying graphic arts. She went on to have a 12 year graphic arts career that she loved, with SCM Corp. But because she loved them more, she gave up her very fun graphic arts career and poured her heart and soul into growing two sweet children into two wonderful adults. Later, she faced the terrible disease of cancer with grace and dignity and courage like we’ve never seen.

But not once did she whine or complain. Not one "woe is me". She showed us every day how to be courageous. So we have to be, too.  She took care of all of us for so long, she couldn’t quite get used to letting us take care of her. Pat was a lifelong devoted Christian and while she attended other churches with her family, she remained a member of the former Memorial Park Presbyterian Church.

Friends and family alike, we were all blessed by God to have her in our lives. Despite our present grief,  she has left us a legacy of love and laughter and precious, sweet memories that will keep us going until that day when a great reunion takes place. We know where she is and we know we will see her again.

Pat is survived by her husband of 39 years, Wayne DeLong of Gainesville , her daughter Amanda DeLong of Gainesville , her son Matthew DeLong of Oakwood ,  her mother Marie Myers West Albuquerque of Gainesville, her sister and brother-in-law, Sherry and Jody Howell of Flowery Branch, her brother and sister-in-law Frank and Darlene West of Commerce, and an extended family of wonderful nieces and nephews and in-laws, all of whom adored her and were special to her. She was preceded in death by her father, the late Frank West Sr. of Gainesville.
