Addie Laura Campbell

Obituary Date: Sunday, September 1, 2024

Dr. Addie Laura Campbell, known by all as Laura, and affectionately as Dr. Laura, 79, a native of Clearwater, Florida, and longtime resident of Atlanta, Georgia, sadly left our world on September 1, 2024, after a life richly lived in service, generosity, and kindness. Laura dedicated a lifetime of service to helping children, adolescents and families cope with life issues and psychological problems. She touched many lives with her positive, enthusiastic outlook, compassion, and empathy. Laura earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Florida, a Master’s Clinical Nurse Specialist degree from Emory University School of Nursing, and a Ph.D. degree in Nursing from Georgia State University, where she was also an instructor and supervisor.

Her career began at Georgia Mental Health Institute in the Child and Adolescent Units. She provided treatment and consultation at Hillside, a residential treatment program for youth. She later codirected the Psychiatry Consultation Liaison Service at Grady Hospital, assisting children and adolescents dealing with psychological issues, and with youth admitted to the Grady Burn Center. She was Director of Nursing at Peachtree Parkwood Psychiatric Hospital and provided psychological consultation at Children’s Hospital of Atlanta. She went on to establish a private practice, Psychotherapy Associates of Lenox Point, with psychiatrist, Charles Tauber, providing outpatient services for children and adolescents. She was particularly passionate about her role as the lead psychiatric nurse at Camp Breathe Easy, a special needs summer camp for children with asthma.

Laura was predeceased by her parents, Bill and Mary Glen Campbell and her sister, Madeline, of Clearwater, Florida. She is survived by many Campbell cousins, who remember her for her fun-loving spirit and generous heart, and for the many family events she planned and hosted. Laura also had a special place in her heart for a family that she claimed as her own, and who lovingly called her Lollie, Robin Standridge Mozzo and her daughters, Autumn, Britney, and Carson, and Robin’s brothers, Brian Standridge and Eric Standridge.

Celebrations of Life will be held in Atlanta and Clearwater with friends and family. Donations in Laura’s memory can be made to: The University of Florida School of Nursing, Camp Twin Lakes, Inc., or Georgia Nurses Foundation, Inc.
