Mr. Richard Thomas Hayes, age 90 of Hickory Circle, Toccoa passed away Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at his residence after a sudden illness.
A son of the late Andrew J. Hayes and Eula Mae Little Hayes, he was born December 12, 1933 in Gwinnett County, Georgia. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force for 24 years and during this time, lived in Michigan, California, Hawaii and North Dakota. In the late 70’s, he moved to Toccoa. He worked with the Steel Foundry for a number of years and later with Electrolux. He was of the Baptist faith. He loved to piddle and loved traveling out west.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Debbie Burgess, by two brothers and one sister.
Survivors include his wife of the home, Carolyn Dunson Hayes; daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda and Johnny Fowler of Martin and Dianne and Paul Craig of Murphy, North Carolina; step-son, Wayne Mealor of Toccoa; granddaughter, Nicole Fowler of Toccoa; grandson, Travis Craig of Michigan; great-grandchildren, Makenna Fowler, Kayley Wright, Ezra Leon, Jaythan Craig and Maggie Wright.
Funeral services will be Thursday, August 22, 2024, 2 o’clock p.m. in the Hillcrest Chapel of the Acree-Davis Funeral Home with The Reverend Ellen Cook officiating. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Johnny Fowler, Joseph Lewallen, Danny Fountain, David “Pete” Fountain and Paul Craig.
The family will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Thursday, 12 noon until the service time. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.acree-davisfh.com.
Interment will follow in the Toccoa City Cemetery with the Acree-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory in charge of the arrangements for Mr. Richard Thomas Hayes.
