Oscar Eldon Owenby, age 87, of Demorest, passed away on Monday, August 12, 2024.
Born on August 4, 1937, in Hiawassee, he was a son of the late George Washington Owenby and Sinda Arrowood Owenby Burrell. He eloped with the love of his life, Jean Ann Austin, on July 13, 1957. She was his entire world, and they were inseparable until her passing in January of 2024. Oscar and Jean raised three sons in Flint, Michigan. Upon retiring from General Motors after 33 years of service, they moved to Panama City Beach, Florida where they lived for 15 years. Then they moved to Demorest, Georgia to be closer to their family. In his spare time, Oscar enjoyed trout fishing with his brothers and deep-sea fishing in the Gulf of Mexico.
Survivors include his sons and daughter-in-law, Douglas Owenby (Susan) of Frankenmuth, Michigan and Marty Cliff Owenby of Demorest; grandsons, David Owenby and Daniel Owenby (Midori); great-granddaughters, Charlotte and Penelope Owenby; siblings, Arvil Owenby and Artis Owenby (Betty), Angela Addis (Raymond) and Shelia Ann Matheson (Jesse).
In addition to his parents and beloved wife, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Rob Burrell, son, Dennis Owenby and brothers, Rex Burrell and Ricky Burrell.
Oscar’s wishes were to be cremated and a private celebration of life to be held at a later date.
