Kathleen Novella Jennings Gailey, age 81, of Clermont, Georgia, passed away Sunday, August 11, 2024.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 pm Friday, August 16, 2024 at Memorial Park Riverside Chapel. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, August 17, 2024 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Clermont, Georgia.
She was fondly known as Kathy to her family and friends. Kathy was born in Clinton, Iowa on February 10, 1943. She was the daughter of the late Fred Burton Jennings and Lula Ethel (Little) Jennings.
She is survived by her loving husband, Lamar Gailey; daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Chris Hollifield; special granddaughters, Sarah James Satterfield (Derek) and Grace Gailey Hollifield; sister and brothers, Kandy Skwiat (Steve); Fred B. Jennings Junior (Barb) Bob Jennings (Ruth); brother and sisters-in-law, Shirley and Jim Gailey and Ruth Gailey and a numerous nieces and nephews.
She graduated from Clinton High School, Peabody College with a degree in Math and a minor in Library Science. She received her M. Ed in Educational Media from the University of Georgia and S. Ed. From Georgia State University in Library Media Technology. She is published in ERIC. She served on the Committee of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and made many visits to school systems in Georgia.
She was the only full –time female faculty member at Battle Ground Academy, an all –boy’s prep school in Franklin, Tennessee. She taught math in Flint, Michigan and Des Moines, Iowa. She was the media specialist at Wauka Mountain Elementary until her retirement. She loved and cherished all her students.
She volunteered for CASA, the Olympic Rowing Event on Lanier, Clermont Library, story time for kindergarteners, treasurer of the Hall Gainesville Retire Educators, Trinity United Methodist Women, Friends of the Hall County Library and mentoring for the Center Pointe. She was appointed by the Hall County Commissioners to serve on the Library Board. She loved her career and her family.
