Jerry Vernon Gilleland, 72, of Gainesville GA, entered Heaven's Gate Aug 6, 2024. Jerry was born in Lumpkin County, in 1952, to the late Frank Benjamin Gilleland and Alda Beth (Cleveland) Gilleland.
He graduated a Lumpkin County Indian, class of 1970 then went on to obtain a degree from Lanier Technical College in Oakwood Ga. In his professional life, Jerry was a well-respected, trusted, and successful businessman. He was deeply involved in various businesses in Gainesville including Gibson's Discount Center, Turtles Records & Tapes, Rawhide Western Store, and Cox Communications & Electronics.
Jerry was a family man if there ever has been one. He met the love of his life, Kathy, in 1976 and they were married 8 months later. This bond would last 46 years together. Jerry had 3 daughters and 1 son. Many nights were spent with his children watching TV, talking about school problems, or being a kid himself. If you were Jerry's friend, you were one for a lifetime, and he made sure you knew it.
Gone before him are his mother and father, Frank and Alda Gilleland, and his daughter Michelle Harkins.
Left here to cherish the memories are his soulmate and wife Kathy of Gainesville. Daughters Jennifer (Michael) Brown of Dahlonega Ga, Dana Gilleland of Lusk Wyoming. Son Justin (Elizabeth) Gilleland of Dahlonega Ga. Grandchildren Kaitlin Bookmiller and Emma Eller. A very special nephew, Ryan (Michelle) Highfield of Monroe Ga.
Jerry was a member of Shoal Creek Baptist Church and was a member of the adult choir. A very special thanks to the congregation of Shoal Creek Baptist Church for their love and support during this time.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Friday, August 9, 2024 at Shoal Creek Baptist Church. The Rev. Josh Chatham and the Rev. Russell Burt will officiate. Interment will follow in Cavenders Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
