Marvin Woodrow Poe

Evans Funeral Home of Jefferson announces the death of Mr. Marvin Woodrow Poe, age 69, of Monroe, Georgia who passed away on Friday August 2, 2024 after several years of declining health. 

He was the second child born to the late Louise Jackson Poe and Woodrow Poe of the Brockton community near Jefferson, Georgia. Marvin enjoyed life on the family farm in Brockton for his first 53 years. In 2008 he moved to Monroe, Georgia  to be with the love of his life, Denise.

Marvin was a 1973 graduate of Jefferson High School and attended Lanier Technical School. He worked his entire 47 year career in industrial and facility maintenance. He retired as the Operations and Facilities Director for Oconee County Board of Commissioners.

Marvin was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church at Brockton. Marvin enjoyed studying history and genealogy and had a special interest in the War Between the States. He was a member and past Commander of the General TRR Cobb Camp #97 Sons of Confederate Veterans. He was active in outdoor activities and especially enjoyed deer hunting, fishing with his grandchildren, and spending time at the lake. He and Denise liked to travel and had enjoyed vacation trips all over North America.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents and his oldest son Justin Poe. He is survived by his son, Josh (Amy) Poe of Jefferson, spouse, Denise McCullers of the home, and her children, Kerri (Sammy) Sorrell and Micah (Ashlee) McCullers. Also surviving are a sister, Carolyn (Donald) Jones of Jefferson, and brothers Kenny (Andrea) Poe of Jefferson, and Ray Poe of Valdosta. Nine grandchildren also survive, Cameron, Hoke, Olivia, Ava, and Aubrey Poe, Lane and Macy Sorrell, and Ryder and Walker McCullers.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 P.M. Tuesday August 6, 2024 in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Home with Pastor Ross Wheeler officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 11:00 A.M until time of service at 1:00 P.M..  Afterwards, Marvin will be laid to rest with his Mama, Daddy, and Justin at Jackson Memorial Park, Commerce, Georgia. Gentlemen honored as pallbearers are Cameron Poe, Marshall Collins, Sammy Sorrell, Micah McCullers, Mark Jones, and Lane Sorrell.
