Barbara Lorraine Haywood (May 30, 1942- July 17, 2024) was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts to the late Fitz A. Haywood and Leotta M. Haywood (Allman).  She had a happy childhood and grew up in a loving Christian home.  Barbara graduated from Cambridge High and Latin School in 1960 and Cambridge City Hospital’s nursing school in 1963.  She later went on to earn a BSN from Boston College and a master’s degree from Cambridge College.  Barbara worked as a pediatric nurse practitioner at Cambridge City Hospital, Boston Children’s Hospital, and Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates.

Once Barbara retired and moved to Gwinnett County in 2008, she continued to be involved in nursing.  She worked for Hospice Atlanta and later Seniors Helping Seniors until 2020. Barbara was also active in her church, Regency Church of God (Sugar Hill) and participated in small groups and community outreach with Victory Church Hamilton Mill (Buford).

After a short battle with cancer, Barbara said, “it is well with my soul” and departed this Earth to be with her Heavenly Father.  She leaves to mourn her daughter, Andrea (Kyle) Armstrong, grandchildren Kyle’-Simone, Kahllel, Halle-Marie, and Gabrielle Nicole.  She also leaves two great grandchildren, Niyelle Kora and Syon Legend.  Barbara was predeceased by her older brother, Cleland S. Haywood.  Her living siblings are Myrtle Thornhill and Lillian Allsopp, both of Medford, MA and K. Allan Haywood (Sylvia) of Hudson, MA.

Barbara was a caring and loving woman as attested by the many dear and loving friends that she had.
