Walter L. “Walt” Blalock, 82, of Dawsonville went to his Heavenly home on Friday, July 12, 2024 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Walter was born April 4, 1942 to the late Gene and Maeoma Blalock. A resident of Dawson County since 2001, he had formerly lived in Cumming. He was a graduate of Milton High School, the Dekalb County Fire Academy and Georgia Fire Academy. Walter was a retired lieutenant from the Dekalb County Fire Department where he worked as a fire fighter, EMT and Paramedic for over 27 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, playing guitar, house remodeling and traveling. A member of Hopewell Baptist Church, he was also a member of the Moose Lodge in Canton for five years. Walt was preceded in death by two sons, Doug Blalock, Brian Sorrells; daughter, Donna O’Shields; sister, Barbara Blalock; brothers, Hal Dean, James, Norman, Larry, and Jerry Blalock.
Surviving are his wife, Janice Cook Blalock of Dawsonville, Children, Ricky and Linda Blalock of Dawsonville, Jeff and Erica Blalock of Cumming, Stacy and Joey Howard of Canton; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at 1 p.m. at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. David McKee and Rev. Jeff Hill will officiate. Interment will follow at Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery in Milton.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday, July 15 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the hour of service.
