Frederick “Fred” John Watkinson

Born in Stratford Ontario Canada on May 29, 1945, to the late Alice and Bob Watkinson .  Younger brother to sister Shirley and older brother to sisters Linda and Susan.  Frederick “Fred” John Watkinson, died peacefully after a valiant battle against prostate cancer, June 30, 2024, in Gainesville Georgia, where he lived for the past almost 5 years.

Predeceased by both parents and siblings Shirley and Linda, as well as his wife Sheila Tichenor of 36 years.  Will be missed by stepchildren Jeffery Durivan  and Kelly (Jordan) Greenstone, grandchildren Hailey, Anna and Jacob, all of Virginia,  and sister Susan of Toronto,  Also missed by many close friends from his church, as well as Canadian nieces, nephews and cousins.

Fred loved to travel and enjoyed an engineering career that took him to several continents.  He was always happy to reminisce about his many adventures around the world, while remaining proud of his Canadian roots.  Fred’s values were centered around his faith and devotion to God and his family. 

In recent times, Fred was surrounded by the love of his Monday night men’s bible study group.  The men in this group surrounded him with support as he traveled to many appointments and treatments.  We are very thankful to Mike, Mickey, Marc, Noah, Neal and Sam for their true friendship and support of Fred, when he needed it most.

Fred was described by his close friend Mike as “one tough dude”.  He showed remarkable grace and strength, even during times of pain and discomfort.  And he kept his quirky sense of humor to the very end. One of a kind.  We’ll miss you Fred.

Visitation will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 from 5-7 PM and a graveside service will be held on Friday, July 5, 2024 at 10 AM., at Alta Vista Cemetery.
