Mary Frances Weir vanRekom

Mary Frances Weir vanRekom, 88, of Crossville, TN, formerly of Gainesville, GA, passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2024, surrounded by her family. Mary was born August 3, 1935 in Victoria, TX to the late Felix Weir and Frances Sousek.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her son, Randy vanRekom and step-father, Lum Sousek.

Mary is survived by her children: Ron vanRekom (Barbara) of Verrado, AZ; Julie Robinson (Chris) of Gainesville, GA; Amy Steele-Wortel of Crossville, TN. Grandchildren: Rebecca Robinson of Atlanta, GA; Tatum Robinson of Fort Worth, TX; Sean Steele of Brooklyn, NY; Seth Steele (Ashlee) of Greenback TN; Abigail Sinisi (Dan) of Norfolk, VA.

Mary grew up in Victoria, TX where she attended Nazareth Academy. She also lived in California and Florida before moving to Gainesville, GA in 1971. She was a long time member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church before moving to Crossville, TN, where she became a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.

Mary was a homemaker while raising her children. Then worked at Ann’s House of Flowers, State Farm Insurance Co. and later became a housemother at University of Idaho and Brenau Academy. She volunteered with NEGA Hospital Auxiliary and St. Vincent DePaul Society. She belonged to many clubs including St. Michael’s Women’s Guild, New Bridge Homemakers Club and several bowling leagues. She enjoyed baking, traveling, playing cards, playing dominos and spending time with family and friends. Mary always had a smile that would light up the room.

The family will receive friends at Memorial Park Funeral Home Monday, June 24, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church.
