Billy Asa Elmore

Billy Asa Elmore, 83, of Gainesville, Georgia, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 16, 2024.  Born in Arkansas and raised in South Carolina, he was the son of the late Rev. Ben R. Elmore and Sarah Greene Elmore.  He was a graduate of Blacksburg High School, a graduate of Limestone College, completed his Master’s Degree at Appalachian State University, and his Educational Specialist Degree at University of South Carolina.  Billy retired from the Cherokee County SC School District, where he served as principal of Draytonville Elementary, Ewing Middle School, and Central Elementary School.  He was a member of Flat Creek Baptist Church in Gainesville, and a former member of Grassy Pond Baptist Church in Gaffney where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher.  

 Billy is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Patricia Hannon Elmore.  They raised their family in Gaffney, SC and later retired to Newburgh, Indiana, before subsequently heading south again to Georgia.   In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Rev. Anne Elmore (Jay Hale) of Philadelphia, PA and Jane Elmore Vassy (Dr. Matt) of Gainesville, GA; five grandchildren: Laura Elmore Hale (Andrew Breza) of Washington, DC, Rachel Elmore Hale (Jeremy Muday) of Silver Spring, MD, Caroline Elmore Hale of New York City, NY, Emma Jane Vassy of Chattanooga, TN, and Jackson Matthew Vassy of Athens, GA, and great granddaughter, Scarlett Hale Breza of Washington, DC.

 A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, June 20 at 11:00 am at Memorial Park Funeral Home with Dr. Zack Williams presiding.  The family will receive friends at 10:00 am prior to the service.  

 In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Northeast Georgia Medical Center Hospice, 2150 Limestone Parkway, Suite 222, Gainesville, GA 30501.
