Mr. Tim Abercrombie, age 67, of Dahlonega, passed away Thursday, June 13, 2024. Tim was born in Lumpkin County on May 17, 1957, to the late Elbert Abercrombie and Janett Shreffler. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by stepfather Max Shreffler; sister Ginger Lee; sister-in-law Trini Davis; brothers-in-law C.F. Lingerfelt and Buster Hicks.
Tim began his career in 1979 with the Corps of Engineers in Buford, Georgia. His commitment to service then led him to Columbus, where he served in the Department of the Army at Fort Benning.
In 1996, Tim returned to his hometown of Dahlonega and got to work with the 5th Ranger Battalion serving families at Porter Village until his retirement in 2005.
Outside of work, he enjoyed fishing and playing cornhole or horseshoes with friends and family. However, his greatest source of joy came from spending time with his beloved grandchildren, who affectionately called him "Papa Tim."
Survivors include his loving wife of 46 years, Loretta Abercrombie of Dahlonega; daughter Suzanne Hitt (Jamie) of Dahlonega; grandchildren Kaitlyn Samples (Tyler) and Dillon Anderson; great-grandchild Myles Samples; siblings Pete Abercrombie, Sue Hicks, Karen Lingerfelt, Terry Forrester (Jeff), Alan Shreffler, Elaine Leger (Phil); brother-in-law Horace Lee; sister-in-law Brooke Gee (Timmy); special friends Sadie and Stan Bafile; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 PM on Monday, June 17, 2024, in the chapel at Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home with Mr. Jamie Hitt officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 PM until the service hour.
