Louis Franklin “Bo” Herndon, age 85, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 in Gainesville, Georgia from complications associated with Charcot-Marie-Tooth, a genetic nerve disease that causes progressive muscle weakness.
Born in Baton Rouge, LA, Bo was predeceased by his parents Emmitt O’Neal (1940) and Ouida Sims Herndon (2010).
Bo retired in 1999 after 24 years as a computer operator at Lockheed Martin, Marietta, GA. As a young man, Bo earned his Eagle Scout award, the first of three generations in the family. He also served 6 years in the Georgia Air National Guard.
Bo enjoyed a lifetime of woodworking and other home and garden projects. A dedicated family man, Bo provided the gift of companionship and travel with Sandy, as well as many local camping and other trips with his young family. He was a dedicated fan of our local Atlanta Braves and Falcons as well as several college football teams. Bo was a loyal friend to many and an active classmate of Chamblee High School’s Class of 1958.
Bo is survived by his loving wife and high school sweetheart of 64 years, Sandra (Sandy) Pritchett Herndon, and their two sons and daughters-in-law, James O’Neal (Lisa) Herndon, Mark (Sarah) Herndon. Bo was an adored grandfather to William (Amanda), Benjamin, Andrew, Mark (Andrea), Claire (Alan), and Abby (Michael) and their spouses. Bo was also a great-grandfather to Ella and the newest family addition Addison. Bo is also survived by in-laws Pam and Tom Wilson and their family, Danielle and Cory, Diane Ryan and her family, Jamie and Storeman, as well as several cousins.
