Thomas Alvin “Buz” Arrowood Jr., 63 of Toccoa, passed away on June 9, 2024 at his home surrounded by his sons.
A son of Mary Arrowood Smith of Toccoa and the late Tom Arrowood, Buz was born January 24, 1961, in Atlanta, Georgia. He was a 1979 graduate of Stephens County High School and a 1983 graduate of the University of Georgia where he received a degree in Risk Management and Insurance from the Terry College of Business and was a member of the 1980 National Championship football team.
After graduating from Georgia, Buz began working for Milliken in Greenville until he returned home to Toccoa in 1989 to work for Dodd Construction as a foreman. In 2000, Buz founded Arrowood General Contracting, which he was president and owner of until his passing.
Buz always felt it was important to serve the community in which he lived, particularly the youth. He served as a coach for countless little league baseball teams, recreation department football and basketball teams, helped transport students and animals to numerous livestock shows around the state with the FFA, and was an assistant scout master with Boy Scout Troop 217 of Toccoa for over 20 years.
While he was loved by many, his favorite place to be was wherever his sons were. Fishing, playing golf, throwing the frisbee, sitting on East Beach in St. Simon’s, or being at a Bulldog football game were merely back drops for his primary goal of being with and loving on his family.
Survivors include his mother, Mary Smith of Eastanollee; four sons, Tripp (and Rachel), Hutch, Hank, and Rhett all of Toccoa; sister and brother-in-law, Beth Arrowood Brown and Tyke Brown of Spartanburg, South Carolina; one grandson, Tom Arrowood of Toccoa; several nieces and nephews; the mother of his children, DeeDee Dodd Arrowood of Toccoa. He was preceded in death by his father, Mr. Thomas Arrowood Sr. and his brother Benny Arrowood.
