Virginia Pethel Sigers Lewallen

Obituary Date: Saturday, June 8, 2024

Virginia Pethel (Sigers) Lewallen peacefully entered the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on June 8, 2024.  The miracle baby of John Wesley Pethel and Eva Burt Pethel, Virginia was born December 19, 1937, following the death of her brother in the Gainesville, Georgia tornado of 1936.

Being the youngest of eleven children, Virginia grew up with loving nieces and nephews who were closer in age than her siblings. As a young woman Virginia met, fell in love, and married Gene Sigers.  They were blessed with the birth of two daughters, Kathy Renee Sigers in 1957 and Pamela Karen Sigers in 1960.  Gene and Virginia were married for eight years until his passing in 1963. Virginia was employed by Home Federal Savings and Loan in downtown Gainesville where she was known for her kindness to all. In 1975, Virginia married Jimmy Lee Lewallen. The two worked together until retirement serving the community through Jimmy Lewallen Wrecker, Paint and Body Shop.

Virginia was preceded in her passing by her grandchildren Matthew Patrick Jones, Kathryn Faith Jones, her siblings, Haskell (Myrtle) Pethel, Mary Frances (Cleve) Bailes, Runell (James) Martin, Hayward Pethel, Donald (Mary Lou) Pethel, Austin (Lessie) Pethel, Alton (Lula) Pethel, infant James Pethel, stillborn infant sister, and Minnie (Nebo) Hix.

Surviving Virginia are her daughters, Karen Sigers and Kathy Sigers Jones, her beloved son-in-law, David Jones, her cherished grandchildren, Emily Jones, Daniel (Jill) Jones, Andrew “Drew” (Abbie) Jones.  Four great-grandchildren were her joy and sunshine.

Virginia’s life was marked by a thread of love that originated with her Creator and Redeemer. Surely goodness and mercy followed her all the days of her life, and now she will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
