Mr. Hughes was born October 18, 1957, at the former Forsyth County Hospital in Cumming, Georgia. As a boy, Gene attended classes at the Gainesville Presbyterian Church, which were led by Miss Betty, instilling beautiful manners and graciousness.

Mr. Hughes was predeceased by his parents James Cliff Hughes and Frances Estelle Hughes (nee Jones), older brother Jay C. Hughes, younger sister Cheryl Elaine Cole, and nephew Ryan L. Nix.

Mr. Hughes is s survived by his loving sisters Jan H. Hamilton and Julia H. Nix, both of Dawson County. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law Captain James R Hamilton (EAL ret) of Dawson County, Georgia, and George Tod Cole of Simi Valley. California, his nephews Wyatt and Stephanie Nix of Dawson County, Georgia, Vincent and Lauren Hamilton of Atlanta, Georgia, and niece Ciera and Kevin Park of Dallas, Texas and a great niece Mya Ansleigh Nix of Cumming, Georgia. Mr. Hughes is also survived by countless special friends including Mr. John Simpson and his family, Mr. Larry Grant and Mr. Daniel Bell.

Visitation will be at held at Bearden Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, between the hours of 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM, with a graveside service at 2:30pm at Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery.
