Mrs. Joanne Carter Bagwell, age 80, of Gainesville, Georgia passed away on Saturday, June 1, 2024.
Joanne was born August 8, 1943 in Lake City, Florida to the late Carlton and Alice (Bullard) Carter.
Joanne was known as an encourager of people. She had a knack for understanding an individual’s potential and assisting them in moving forward. Joanne was equally comfortable picking vegetables in the garden or going to a business dinner. Within minutes of meeting someone, Joanne established a connection – whether common interest or background.
After finishing her bachelor’s degree at Brenau College, she entered her first career as a teacher, where she encouraged elementary school students for five years. While devoting her skills to raising and inspiring her three children, Joanne served as the President of the Junior Service League and President of the McEver Elementary PTA.
Joanne approached her next career as a realtor with her signature high energy and dedication. She was an entrepreneur and founded Northeast Georgia Real Estate. Her vision of encouragement and hospitality assisted many families in home ownership and realtors in establishing their careers. Joanne never shied away from the hard task. She served as President of the Hall County Board of Realtors and as the first female President of the Georgia Association of Realtors. Joanne also served as the first female President of the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce. She was a member of First Baptist Church for more than 60 years, where she served as a Sunday School Teacher and Vacation Bible School volunteer. She also served on the Ministry of Caring Committee and was an active member of the J.O.Y. Sunday School Class.
She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, William A. (Dub) Bagwell; children, Emily, Carla and William (Jennifer); seven grandchildren, Catherine, William, Emmaline, Benjamin, Walker, Allison and Sara Beth; one great-grandchild, Jayden; siblings, Carl Ivey Carter and Jeannie Pennington; as well as a host of other relatives.
