Joseph Paul Winkel

Joseph Paul Winkel, age 94, of Dacula, GA, passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2024.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Elizabeth Winkel; one brother, and six sisters.

Mr. Winkel is survived by his children, Barbara L. Winkel of Dacula, GA, Christine Johnson of Lawrenceville, GA, and Kathleen (Cliff) Terry of Buford, GA; 2 grandchildren, Matthew (Kayleigh) O’Neill of Social Circle, GA, Ivey Hamby of Brookhaven, GA; 2 great-grandchildren, Makayla O’Neill of Social Circle, GA, and Mattie O’Neill of Social Circle, GA; sisters, Carolyn Smith of Madison, IN, and Dolores Spoonmore of Madison, IN.; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mr. Winkel was born October 22, 1929 in Madison, IN.  As a veteran of the U.S. Navy, Mr. Winkel served in the Korean War on the OSS 1^st 887 Landing Ship.  He was a 1947 graduate of Madison High School and graduated from St. Mary’s College with a Bachelors’ Degree.  Mr. Winkel retired as an Accountant with Empire Distributors after 38 years of service.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, June 8, 2024, in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home, Buford, GA with Rev. Randy Blanton officiating.  The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 8, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home.

Interment with Military Honors will be held on Monday, June 10, 2024 at 12:30 p.m., at Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, Ga.
