Mrs. Sara Sue Poole Coker age 81 passed away Friday May 24, 2024 at her residence
A daughter of the late Hugh Dorsey and Thelma Barnes Poole, she was born June 29, 1942 in Banks County, Georgia having lived most of her life in Swannanoa, North Carolina before moving back to Toccoa after retirement. She married Henry Coker in June 24, 1961; in 1963 they moved to Wake Forest, North Carolina for Henry to attend Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. She was Henry’s faithful wife, constant companion and helper. After helping Henry achieve this master in Divinity degree, she went back to school and was the first graduating class of Registered Nurses at Asheville Buncombe Tech in Asheville. She later became a certified Emergency Medical Technician. She retired with over thirty years of service with the state of North Carolina as a Registered Nurse with juvenile offenders and elderly patients. She endowed many hardships though the years but never complained. She was the best wife in the world to him.
She was preceded in death by a sister Jo Ann McCollum, a brother SP4 Tony Poole and a sister-in-law Betty Jo Poole.
Survivors include her husband Lewis Henry Coker of the home, brothers and sisters-in-law Larry and Rhonda Poole of Toccoa and Donald and Nancy Poole of Gainesville, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Homer and Cynthia Coker of Burlington, North Carolina and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday May 29, 2024 at 2 P.M. at the Chapel of First Baptist Church with the Reverend Brett Sanders, the Reverend David Ritcey and the Reverend Jerrell Beatty officiating. The family will receive friends at the Chapel of First Baptist Church from noon until service time.
The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers John McCollum, Adam McCollum, Austin Poole, Keith Poole, Richie Bruce and Bob McGee
Interment will follow in Stephens Memorial Gardens
