Mattie Arzae Lawson

Mrs. Mattie Arzae Griffin Lawson, age 88 of 435 Mulkey Road, Toccoa passed away Sunday, May 19, 2024 at the home of her son.

A daughter of the late John C. Griffin and Margaret Bowden Griffin, she was born July 16, 1935 in Toccoa, Georgia where she lived all her life.  She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.  She loved caring for children, especially the neighbor children, loved working in her flowers and loved her cats and dogs. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Ray Herschel Lawson, daughter, Carolyn Lawson, two sons, Jimmy Lawson and Timmy Lee Lawson and by three brothers, Rastus Griffin, Hill Lee Griffin and John Snubbie Griffin.

Survivors include four daughters, Wanda Lawson of the home, Linda Chitwood of Cornelia, Georgia and Brenda Carter and Diane Carter both of Toccoa; son, Allen Lawson of Toccoa; twenty five grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 22, 2024, 2 o’clock p.m. in the Hillcrest Chapel of the Acree-Davis Funeral Home with The Reverend Marvin Brown officiating.  The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearer s, Ethan Widhalm, Evan Widhalm, TimmyLawson, Christopher Lawson, Brendan Collier and Jacob Lawson.  Honorary pallbearers will be Josh Lawson and Michael Collier.

The family will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Tuesday, 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.  Online condolences may be left for the family at www.acree-davisfh.com.

Interment will follow in the Zebulon Baptist Church Cemetery with the Acree-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory in charge of the arrangements for Mrs. Mattie Griffin Lawson.
