Michael (Mike) Louis McClellan, Sr.

Obituary Date: Tuesday, May 7, 2024

Michael (Mike) Louis McClellan, Sr., an electrical engineering consultant and devoted husband, died peacefully on May 7, 2024 at the age of 75, surrounded by love and family. He is survived by his wife, Dawn Brodnax McClellan, with whom he shared 55 years of dedicated marriage. He is also survived by his children, Caroline (Cam) Ashley McClellan Teems and Michael Louis McClellan Jr. He is mourned by his granddaughter, Grace McClellan Teems, and grandson Michael (Mac) McClellan III and granddaughter Sophie Caroline McClellan.

Mike was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on September 17th, 1948 to Adele Sutherland McClellan and Howard Robert McClellan, both of whom preceded him in death, along with his sister, Carol. He was a proud graduate of The Lovett School, studied at multiple colleges, and went on to become renowned in the electrical engineering and sales fields. In 1968, he married his high school sweetheart Dawn (DeeDee) Brodnax and later welcomed a beautiful baby girl, Caroline (Cam) McClellan. 11 years later, he also welcomed a son, Michael McClellan Jr.

Mike spent his free time amidst his committed work schedule playing pickleball, dining with friends, hiking and playing golf within the blissful backdrop of his beloved Big Canoe community. Up until 2017, he and his wife also lived in the sunny, idyllic community of Sandestin, FL. Between basking in the sunshine and dipping his toes in the sand, Mike enjoyed deep sea fishing on his boat, The Lucky Star, and golfing with friends on the community course. He was an avid dog lover, particularly of Labrador Retrievers & Jack Russell Terriers, and could often be found after work hours with a glass of Pinot Noir and a terrier nestled next to him, watching a sports event or a game of golf. When he needed a change of scenery from the beach or the mountains, he escaped with European & historical American river cruises or trips filled with rich ancestral significance, like his journey with his wife to Scotland to visit the McClellan castle.

Mike could be described as intelligent, driven, committed and enjoyably witty. His quick remarks and playful banter will be remembered fondly. Taken too soon by an unexpected Alzheimer's diagnosis, Mike will be deeply missed by his family, friends and anyone who had the pleasure of knowing his wonderful spirit.

In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a memorial donation to the Alzheimer's Research Association in honor of Mike.
