Mrs. Virginia Sue Mayberry age 92, of Jefferson slipped away peacefully into the arms of the Lord in the small morning hours of Wednesday, May 8, 2024. She was a well-known member of the Jefferson Community, an avid bingo fan, and a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother. A longtime office manager for Investment Housing in Jefferson, she greeted everyone who walked into their office with a broad smile and feisty spirit. Always ready to be a friend, she formed many longstanding bonds, seemingly out of nowhere, because she never met a stranger. Her no-nonsense, straight-to-the-point demeanor would go from intimidating to endearing so quickly that you couldn’t help but to enjoy conversations with her. Often in a rush to get somewhere, she was known for having a lead foot and scolding the officer or deputy who pulled her over for making her late.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Terry Mayberry, brothers Grover (Buzz) Cyrus, Harold Cyrus, Joe-Eddy Cyrus, and Teddy Cyrus, sisters Nancy Alexander, Naomi (Red) Bramblett, Marilynn (Tally) Rivere, and Sharon Cyrus. She is survived by her son, Charles Mayberry, daughter Terrie Mayberry, grandson Ian Mayberry, sister Brenda Trail, brother Michael (Butch) Cyrus, great-grandsons Logan, Clayton, Christian and Dustin Mayberry, and an extended loving family spanning four generations. Celebration of Life to be planned for a later date.
