Mr. Freddie Ray Merck, affectionately known as "Fast Freddie" by many, passed away on Monday, May 6, 2024, at the age of 66 in Dahlonega, Georgia. He was born on October 24, 1957, in Dahlonega to the late James Marcus Merck and the late Edna Black Merck. He joins his grandmother, Nell Adams, in eternal rest.
Freddie is survived by his loving children Nathan Merck, Megan (David) Mullinax, and Ethan Merck; siblings James (Mylinda) Merck, Delores (Van) Merck, Judy (Jimmy) Myers, and Robbie (Ronald) Gentry; significant other Pamela Merck; grandchildren Autumn and Cathan Merck; mothers of children, Donna Skaggs and Angela Carlan; and stepdaughter Tracy Franklin. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and other relatives who will cherish his memory.
"Fast Freddie" was a man of remarkable qualities—stubborn yet remarkably kind and generous. His infectious smile and piercing blue eyes could brighten anyone's day. Known for his selflessness, he was always willing to give whatever he had, even if it meant his last possession. He possessed an amazing talent for fixing things, particularly anything with a motor. Riding his motorcycle brought him immense joy, and it was while enjoying this passion that he departed this world, doing what he loved most.
Funeral services to honor Freddie's life will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home, followed by interment at Mt. Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 10, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home.
