Velma Loretta (Dockery) Smith

Mrs. Velma Loretta (Dockery) Smith, age 82, of Cleveland, went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 6.

Mrs. Smith was born in White County to Johnny & Jessie Mae Dockery. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wiley Rufus (WR) Smith.

Velma enjoyed clerical work and talking with customers. She worked for Attorney Kenneth Keene as an insurance agent for almost 20 years. Continuing her career, she worked for Dr Jack Chapman & Dr. Don Robbins, optometrists, as receptionist & office manager. She worked for Dr. Don Robbins for 30 years and was a valuable asset to each business.

Velma loved the Lord, her church, Cleveland Worship Center, and her church family. She was a giving person. She also enjoyed decorating for church functions. She made many hard choices that benefited others. She enjoyed traveling with her friend, Joyce Henderson & family members.

She is survived by her son & daughter-in-law, Dwayne & Pam Smith, her daughter & son-in-law, Pam & Neal Young, her daughter & son-in-law, Becki Edge & Tim Edge; grandchildren, Alex Young, Alan & his wife, Amanda Young, Adam Edge, and Jessie Edge; great grandchildren, Quinn & Noah Young; brother, Rondal Dockery.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM Friday, May 10, 2024, at The Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. The Rev. Marc Turner will officiate. Interment will follow in Gateway Memory Park. A livestream of the service can be viewed here: https://youtube.com/live/PDyzv6qDOCU?feature=share
