Mildred Abercrombie Palmour, age 94, passed peacefully at home on April 26, 2024 after an extended illness. She had remained I her home throughout her illness surrounded by family and dear friends. She is now in her forever heavenly home with her Savior, her parents and husband, as well as many others gone before.
Born on June 8, 1929 to W. Arnie and Clara Abercrombie, Mildred was also preceded in death by her husband, Harry Lee Palmour, and two sisters who died in childhood, Cora Marie and Annette Abercrombie.
She is survived by her sons, Donald (Debbie) Palmour, Barry Palmour, Davis Palmour, Mack Palmour and daughter, Becky (Darrell) Harmon; grandchildren, Beth Barnes, Lindsay (Greg) Justice, Peyton Palmour, Jackson Palmour, Conor Scharr and Marius Palmour, as well as great-grandchildren, Jaylon Justice, Griffin Barnes, Jordan Justice and Adelaide Scharr. She is also survived by a brother, Rev. W. Jerry (Carolyn) Abercrombie and sisters, Dorothy Abercrombie, Linda Kerns and Brenda Abercrombie. Also left to cherish her memory are her beloved and faithful caregivers, Lisa Layne and Osas Bakare, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Mildred was a graduate of Murrayville High School, Class of 1947. She worked at several different jobs including Morgan Cleaners through the years, but her main vocation was always the care and rearing of her family, and her home was always open to the neighborhood children, family members and guests.
She was a talented seamstress, as evidenced by the beautiful clothes she made for herself, her children and grandchildren, as well as the many times she was asked to med or do alterations for others. One of the great pleasures in her life was collecting and trying out recipes. Her family can bear witness to her expertise in making jellies and jams. She and her husband, Harry, had faithfully served God and their church for many years that was begun by Mildred’s Aunt Willie Mae McCarter and where her father had also served as Pastor, Murrayville Assembly of God, more recently known as The River Community Church.
Funeral Services will be Money, April 29, 2024 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Memorial Park Riverside Chapel Funeral Home, Rev. Jerry Abercrombie to officiate the service with interment following at Yellow Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 28, 2024 starting at 3:00 pm and ending at 6:00 pm. The family wishes to thank Vidma Care, as well as Northeast Georgia Medical Center Hospice for their excellent, expert care and kindness during Mildred’s last days. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Northeast Georgia Health System or to the River Community Church at 5043 Thompson Bridge Road Murrayville, GA 30564.
