John William "Bill" Helms went to be with Jesus on 4/14/2024 after a battle with cancer. He was a strong Christian and had a unapologetic faith in Christ. He is rejoicing that his pain on this earth is gone.
Bill was born in Enterprise, AL. He attended Auburn University and graduated from Troy University with a degree in computer programming. Bill lived in Alabama until 1987. At that time he moved to Atlanta and began his career as a programmer. He attended Rehoboth Baptist church where he met his wife, Joy. In 1995 they moved to Dahlonega, GA with their four children. Bill worked for ADP as a senior programmer until 2023. He enjoyed his co-workers and his career was fulfilling.
Bill will always be remembered as a person with a large sense of humor. He loved to laugh and could find humor in almost everything. He was an Auburn University fan and enjoyed motorcycle riding, working with his tractor, kayaking, body surfing the waves at the beach, traveling, going to concerts and mostly hanging out with his family. Bill loved his family greatly and always wanted the best for each of them.
Bill is preceded in death by his father, Ben Waylon Helms. Bill is survived by his wife of 36 years, Joy, and their children Kristin and Kaleb Poth, Ashley and Brad Robertson, Ben Helms, William and Keegan Helms, along with nine grandchildren. His mother, Nettie Reece, brother Bob and sister-in-law Sonya, and Bill’s two sisters Nancy and Flo Helms also survive.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until the service hour.
